SUBJECT: A Note from Mrs. Mills, PTA Updates & Resources for you

"We are a strong Firebird community and will persevere until we can be together at school again!"

Dear Parents,

First of all, a BIG thank you to our entire community for keeping everyone safe and healthy! We have a large number of family members who are in the medical field, first responders, and employees of other critical businesses. We appreciate your hard work and sacrifices to keep the rest of our community as safe as possible. We also appreciate all of the extra social distancing precautions everyone is taking at home and your work supporting our students in their continued learning. We believe it is important for our students to stay engaged with their learning, their classmates, and their teachers as best we can.

During this time, please take care of yourselves and your families. Please be mindful of your stress and your children’s stress. We recommend getting outside and keeping physically active. Know that you can modify student’s assignments if they are spending too much time or if they are getting overwhelmed. Feel free to email teachers if you need help prioritizing and modifying the school work for your student. As I’ve said to my teachers, this public health crisis will be relatively short lived. Students will be back at school sometime soon so that we can get back to the more powerful in-person learning. For now, the learning will be good enough!

We are a strong Firebird community and we will persevere until we can be together at school again! While we’re apart, take care and give all our kiddos a big hug from us. In the meantime, contact your teachers for questions about learning, email Sue.Bobroske@jeffco.k12.co.us if your child will be absent, and email our social worker Karie.Phillips@jeffco.k12.co.us, our assistant principal Christine.Kruse@jeffco.k12.co.us, or me Sally.Mills@jeffco.k12.co.us if you have any questions or concerns that we can help with.

Congratulations Fairmount Staff!
Every year Jeffco recognizes staff members from each school who have demonstrated the qualities of Exemplary Performance, Integrity, Teamwork, and Valuing People. Congratulations to the following staff members for being recognized by their colleagues as Fairmount’s 2020 Value Award recipients: Kathy Staller, Angie Blomquist, Karie Phillips, and Kristin Arnold.

As always, if you have a question, comment, or suggestion, please call the office, stop by, or email me at smills@jeffco.k12.co.us.

We would like to thank the incredibly talented and committed Fairmount staff for their outstanding leadership and perseverance during this unprecedented time. Challenged with quickly meeting the demand of online learning capabilities, our staff rose to the occasion and ensured families and students were taken care of. We appreciate your adaptability and patience in teaching our children online. Your dedication to our children and their success is heartwarming! We can't wait to be together again.

We are proud to announce a new initiative to Fairmount called "Read and Ride" which encourages movement and promotes literacy at the same time. Two stationary bikes have been retrofitted to fit children and have been placed in the library where students will get to use when they're in the library. We hope students enjoy them for years to come!

Traditionally we would have a week-long celebration, honoring our Fairmount staff with chair massages, a few meals, treats, and lots of gratitude, however this year will be different due to school closure. Please help us share the love for all they do!

Students are encouraged to draw pictures or write letters which can be emailed to staff. You can download this coloring page or have your children make their own. If you'd like to do something extra for a staff member, consider sending a gift card via email to one of their favorite stores. Amazon, Target, Home Goods, Starbucks, and craft stores like Michaels and Hobby Lobby are all great choices!
