SUBJECT: End of Year Information from Your PTA

As I thought about my message for this month, I wanted to lead with the positives. This schooling and COVID situation is unprecedented in all of our lifetimes. It has caused and will continue to cause family tragedies and hardships. This is a difficult time for all of us.

With that in mind, I have to tell you I feel blessed to be part of the Fairmount community. Students are working so hard on their remote learning assignments. They have shown us creativity and flexibility for sure! Our parents have also been amazing! We know you have your own jobs and family worries right now, but you have found time to support your students with their learning. Our staff has been successful in jumping into an entirely different instructional delivery model! Our teachers are creating lessons and assignments that replicate the high-quality instruction from their classrooms. Our paraprofessionals are supporting individual students and families online, too.

As we move through summer, we will be planning what school can look like in August. Student, staff, and family safety will be at the forefront of our decision making. We will prepare logistics of how students can be in the building while allowing for social distancing measures. My guess is this arrangement will include flexible scheduling where all students won’t be in the building and the classrooms at the same time.

On May 14, we had a virtual Accountability Committee meeting where we discussed some of the upcoming challenges we may face. You can listen to the meeting here or review the minutes from the meeting hereAs soon as I have specific information about what you might expect, I will be sure to share it with you. We will also encounter budget challenges which I will also share as we know more.

We hope you have a safe and fun summer vacation. We love our Firebirds and can't wait to see you all again in the fall. Thank you again for all of your support!

In the meantime, contact your teachers for questions about learning, email Sue.Bobroske@jeffco.k12.co.us if your child will be absent, and email our social worker Karie.Phillips@jeffco.k12.co.us, our assistant principal Christine.Kruse@jeffco.k12.co.us, or me, Sally.Mills@jeffco.k12.co.us if you have any questions or concerns that we can help with.

Dear Families and Staff,

Thank you for another wonderful and productive school year. We can’t thank you enough for the hours of volunteering, chaperoning, organizing, donating and doing whatever was necessary to support students—both at home and at school.

We are fortunate to again say we were able to go above and beyond the call of duty to provide amazing programs and resources to add to our students’ already rich elementary school experience.

That experience could not occur without the endless energy, skills and devotion of the Fairmount staff. Thanks and well done to an incredibly talented group of professionals who we deeply cherish.

Lastly, we'd like to offer our best wishes to our graduating fifth graders, who we will miss greatly—please come back and visit!

We hope everyone has a safe and happy summer break. Until next school year, here’s wishing you love, laughter and learning to take the lemons and make lemonade.

Sincerely,

Your PTA Board

The Fairmount Elementary School Firebird 5K has been an essential fundraiser for nearly 30 years, and 2020 will be no exception—except our connection will be unique. The Fairmount 5K is going VIRTUAL!

Join us as we run, jog, walk, or channel surf to raise money for our important programs at Fairmount. All students, friends, and family of Fairmount are encouraged to participate, and even your furry friends are welcome! The "race" will be open between May 16, 2020–May 31, 2020, and can be completed however you choose.  Choose from among the three events: Fairmount Virtual 5K, Furmount Virtual Dog Run, or Fairmount Virtual Lounge—where you don't have to do a thing!

Our school programs and initiatives are already heavily dependent on funds from this event, and we anticipate an additional need for funding as Jeffco has announced significant budget cuts are coming as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Let's rally and show our pride, Firebirds! Rise with us to support the school by participating in our FIRST EVER Fairmount Virtual 5K. Registration/participation is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.

While we understand everyone has unique financial situations, a suggested contribution of $50 (or more) per family of four is recommended. Remember, all donations allow the PTA to subsidize programs, initiatives, and school needs—hopefully, to help offset the large budget reductions we're facing in the fall!

Join us as we honor our treasured 5th graders as they step into the next chapter of their education by going to middle school. We will miss them dearly and wish them the best of luck! You'll also get a chance to say goodbye to Fairmount staff for the summer as they'll be in the parade too!

See you this Tuesday, May 19! The parade starts at 10am!
View the parade map here, and view the parade route here

This Thursday is Material Drop-Off/Pick-Up!
Please come pick up your materials from the school and drop off any outstanding items on Thursday, May 21st. You have been assigned a time based on your student's last name.
You can check your time here, and visit this page for detailed information. Thank you for your cooperation!

We desperately need your help in filling these open positions! Please consider joining our team. Being a chair or coordinator is not only a rewarding activity, but it is a great way to make new friends, have fun and know what's going on inside the school. We're flexible so please reach out if any of the following positions appeal to you.

PTA Treasurer: The main duties of the PTA Treasurer is to maintain permanent records to track funds and financial transactions. They chair the budget committee and prepares the annual budget for adoption by the association. Treasurer also pays PTA bills and prepares reports for board and association meetings.

Yearbook Baby Page Coordinator: This person will work with the yearbook coordinator to create baby pages for 5th grade students in next year's yearbook.

Yearbook Coordinator: Organize volunteers for event pictures, class collage pages, and baby pages. Design and layout yearbook and pages and continue to stay in contact with LifeTouch for ordering and receiving all portraits.

5th Grade Continuation Coordinator: Fairmount has a tradition of honoring our 5th Graders with a Continuation Ceremony and Day of Fun at the end of the 2021 school year. A 5th Grade parent is needed to Coordinate the event with the help of the committee of 5th grade parents and teachers.

Contact Laura Warren, PTA Vice President if interested in any position. Thank you for your consideration!
