SUBJECT: December News & Updates

Message from Sally Mills, Principal

EnrollJeffco
EnrollJeffco is Jeffco Public Schools enrollment system. All students will need to use EnrollJeffco between December 8th and January 15th to indicate where they will be going to school next August, including returning to Fairmount. This system will digitally manage the choice/open enrollment process. Once our Fairmount families have indicated if they are returning next year, we will determine if there is extra space at Fairmount to offer open-enrollment seats to students who wish to choice-in to our school. You will be getting additional information sent home in the coming weeks to explain how you will access the system to complete the enrollment process for next year. You can always call Sue Bobroske in the office if you have questions about the process.

Mountain Vista Nursing Home
Although our 5th graders will not be able to visit our friends at Mountain Vista Nursing Home this year, we can still sponsor the residents for a holiday gift. Thank you to Janna Wertz for coordinating this effort! Hopefully, our students will be back to visit next year.

Winter Break
Our students’ winter break starts on December 21st, and they return on January 6th. Our district will work with the Jefferson County Health Department to determine if students can come back in-person or stay online in January. Let’s everyone keep our fingers crossed! We hope all of our families have a magical and safe vacation! See you in 2021!

As always, if you have a question, comment, or suggestion, please call the office, stop by, or email me at Sally.Mills@jeffco.k12.co.us.

Teacher Gifts Made Easy!

The PTA has taken the guesswork out of gift-giving for Fairmount teachers & staff by creating a Favorite Things list. Giftcards to their favorite places is a wonderful way to say thank you for their hard work this year!

5th Grade Baby Pages Due

Baby pages for the 2020-2021 yearbook are due on December 18. Baby pages are a special gift for 5th graders who will be moving on to middle school the following year. Download the flyer or click here to purchase

Stay in Touch During Remote

The directory has been updated on our website for PTA members to access at any time. This is a great way to contact other families in the school to set up virtual playdates/phone calls for your students or send them invitations.  If you are not a member and want to access the directory, you can join the PTA by clicking here.

Online Book Fair
Thank you for your support! We hope your students are enjoying their new books or will enjoy them as holiday gifts. Proceeds will be used to purchase new books for our library.

Spelling Bee
The Fairmount Spelling Bee for 4th and 5th graders will be held on January 26th from 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm. The location is TBD. There will be a pretest beforehand to identify the qualifiers for the school Bee.

Battle of the Books
Many of our 5th-grade students are preparing for our school’s Battle of the Books competition, which will occur in late February. Battle of the Books is a trivia-based literacy program. Students read from ten books from different genres and compete against other teams to answer questions about the books. This friendly competition will allow teams to battle each other within the school and then send our top two teams to a final battle between other teams around the Jeffco School District.

Stay Safe Online
Teaching digital citizenship is very important, especially while remote learning. Take a look at the December Digital Citizenship guide.

What's Happening in STEM

1st-grade engineers were inspired by the Macy’s Day Thanksgiving parade as they created their own floats. Students followed the design process and were limited by only their imaginations as creativity flowed in the classroom!

2nd graders picked up where they left off with their biomimicry inventions. Students created solutions for problems at home, in school, and on athletic courts and fields. They found ways to keep shoes tied, trap squirrels, protect plants in the garden, and much more! If you have a problem, second grade will solve it!

3rd graders worked on mastering multiplication basic facts. Kahoot quizzes provided a friendly competition among mathematicians. Some students even went home and created their own so that they could compete with family and friends!

4th graders had a design challenge of their own. Students are improving an existing product. They have analyzed their existing product and are thinking of ways to enhance them through their specification sheets. There is no shortage of ideas with this group!

5th graders are trying to provide a much-needed burst of joy to 2020 as they innovate the “It” toy of the year! Students are using Tinkercad to create their new toy. Winning designs (as determined by an authentic group of kids in the 8-12 age range) in each class will be 3D printed!
