SUBJECT: Back to School September 2020

September 2020
Message from Sally Mills, Principal

Welcome to a great, new school year! It’s definitely going to be a different school year, but here at school, we are planning to make it the best one possible! The staff has been working hard planning to teach all students remotely with our in-person students starting September 8th. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new staff members, Mrs. Amanda Roche,1st Grade; Mrs. Niki Pardoe, P.E.; Ms. Natalia Simoni, Art; Ms. Mary Paris, Learning Specialist; Ms. Mel Thompson, Social Worker; and Ms. Nicole Fischer, paraprofessional.

Health and Safety Regarding COVID-19
At Fairmount, we take the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously!  We have put in place the Jeffco school's safety measures, which include cohorting, extra handwashing, increased ventilation, sanitizing/disinfecting, etc. We will conduct a daily health screening for all students and staff as they enter the building. The screening will include a temperature reading (must be below 100.4) and a questionnaire about runny nose, cough, sore throat. Below is additional information for parents to help decide if a child should be sent to school and explaining the protocol if there is a positive COVID-19 case.

  • Can I go to school today? Parents and guardians should assess their child's symptoms at home each day. Do not send your child to school if they are experiencing fever, chills, sore throat, new and unexpected cough, loss of taste or smell, extreme fatigue, muscle aches, headache, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or runny nose. For information on how to symptom screen children at home, review these guidelines by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE).

  • What happens if there is a confirmed case at school? We have collaborated with Jefferson County Public Health to develop this quarantine process that describes protocols for a variety of situations involving COVID-19 and schools.

If you have any questions regarding this topic, feel free to contact Kristin Arnold in the Health Room (303)982-5422 or our registered nurse at Gina.Scheidt@jeffco.k12.co.us.

As always, if you have a question, comment, or suggestion, please call the office, stop by, or email me at smills@jeffco.k12.co.us.

Room Parents Needed

While the school year looks different this year, we are still hoping to provide Halloween and Valentine's Day celebrations for our students. We need classroom parents to help facilitate communication and organization for parties.

We also hope to help the teachers by organizing a restock of classroom supplies halfway through the year.

At this time, parent volunteers are still not allowed in the building, however, your volunteer efforts will be very appreciated by both staff and students. To read more about this, visit our Sign-up Genius page for details.

Cafeteria Menu & Updates

Classes will still come to the cafeteria by grade level if they are having hot lunch. We will place their main entree choice, fruit, vegetable, condiments, a package of utensils, and their choice of milk into a to-go back for them. Students will take their bags back to the classroom and eat there.

We will be using ID cards to collect payment, so we won't have to use a shared pin pad. We expect to help the younger grades by scanning their cards and are ready to help start new routines. Please call Leanne Alton at 303-982-5393 or email her if you have any questions or concerns.

Update from Mrs. Blomquist, STEM

Welcome back, Firebirds! We hope you're enjoying the STEM challenges this week. Each grade level has been assigned three tasks to complete: an engineering lesson, a LEGO design challenge, and an artistic assignment. All three require innovation, creativity, and perseverance! Send Mrs. Blomquist, STEM teacher, pictures of your child’s final creations and she will share them on her website and Fairmount’s social media sites.
