SUBJECT: Welcome Back, Firebirds!

Message from Sally Mills, Principal

Welcome to 2021-2022!
Welcome to a great, new school year! The staff has been working hard assessing students and preparing instruction to meet our students where they are. I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new staff members: Mrs. Morgan Davis - Instructional Coach, Ms. Lindsey Altice – 5th Grade Teacher, Ms. Alyson Simon – 4th Grade, Mrs. Kyle Turner – 3rd Grade, Mrs. Andrea Melnick – child psychologist, and Mr. Todd Walsh – ESL Teacher.

Health and Safety Regarding COVID-19
At Fairmount, we take the health and safety of our students and staff very seriously! We also strive to keep our students in-person at school every day! We have put in place the mandatory Jefferson County Public Health safety measures, which include masks for all students, staff, and visitors to the school while indoors. Outdoors, masks are optional for everyone. Other rules are different from last year. We are able to go on field trips, visitors can come into the building, all students in the same grade level can eat lunch together and play together on the playground. Our district along with Jeffco County Public Health will continue to monitor conditions, which may change these procedures later in the year.

If you have any questions regarding this topic, feel free to contact our registered nurse at Gina.Scheidt@jeffco.k12.co.us.

As always, if you have a question, comment, or suggestion, please call the office, stop by, or email me at smills@jeffco.k12.co.us.

A Note From Your President

Welcome to the 2021-2022 school year at Fairmount Elementary! I have the privilege of serving as your PTA President and look forward to getting to know each of you throughout the year.

Whether this is your first year as a Fairmount Firebird parent or you are a long-standing member of this family, we are glad you are here. Each new school year typically brings excitement and anticipation, along with the promise of learning and growth. This year, though, we have the challenge of staying safe and connected while helping our children succeed through the still-present pandemic. Fairmount staff and the PTA have been hard at work throughout the summer to prepare for this year, and whatever may come. Continue reading>

Due to the family nature of the Back to School Bash, there will be no coordinated supervision of children. Parents/guardians are responsible for the supervision of their child(ren).

After School Enrichment

We've been hard at work to bring you a robust offering of activities and programs for your kiddos. Check out our Enrichment Offerings and reach out to Victoria Robinson, enrichment@fairmountpta.org for questions!

Open PTA Positions

If you've ever thought about getting more involved in the PTA or have wondered how much commitment it takes, please reach out to us. • Website Coordinator (work from home) to help us share timely information on the PTA website and maintain the Membership Toolkit functions for transactions, events, sign-ups.

Book Cart is Back

The PTA is proud to announce our Book Cart Program is returning. Books will go out to students K-2.

Fairmount’s Book Cart Program provides our students with the extra boost in becoming proficient readers and fostering a good home/school partnership. Each student will get a book marked with a colored dot in their own bag. When you’re done with each book, please send it back to school, and we will send out a new one!

Thank you to our coordinator, Beth Reichardt, and to Mrs. Mills, Sue Bobroske, teachers, and the volunteers who have made this amazing reading program such a success. If you would like to help or have any questions about the program, please contact Beth at bb4evr@comcast.net.

Help us when you shop

We have several partnerships with businesses that generously donate money back to our PTA when you shop. Learn more about Amazon Smile, Milk Caps for Moo-la and our Safeway program here.

With your help, last year we collected 15,944 product caps last year, raising $797 from Milk Caps for Moo-la, and last quarter we raised $517.90 from Amazon Smile! Thank you, Firebirds!

Lunch Menu
Cafeteria Menu

Welcome back Fairmount families! We will be offering breakfast this school year from 8:30–8:55. Please make sure your student is in the cafeteria no later than 8:45 so they will have time to eat before the last bell. The USDA has extended its waivers for the 2021-2022 school year, so breakfast and lunch will be provided to all students at no cost. Please call Leanne Alton, Cafeteria Manager at 303-982-5393 if you have any questions. View the: breakfast menu, lunch menu.

Library & Media Center Updates

Welcome Back, Everyone!
Hello! My name is Suzie Veldman, and I am starting my 3rd year as Fairmount’s Digital Teacher Librarian (DTL). Digital represents my role in helping integrate technology into instruction, Teacher reflects my teaching role, and Librarian means I still manage the library’s resources, both print and digital. This is my 8th year at Fairmount, spending 5 years as a 5th-grade teacher before sharing the DTL position with Mrs. Johnson for the past 2 years. This is my 23rd year in education, working in Florida school districts before moving to beautiful Colorado 14 years ago.

I would also like to welcome Carly Fenton as our library para this year. We are both so excited to welcome all of our students back into the library this year!

One School, One Book
Thank you to everyone who participated in our One School, One Book program this summer. We had a great time reading about Humphrey the Hamster and spending time reading with our families. Many of our students also enjoyed seeing Humphrey at our summer PTA events. There are many books in the Humphrey series if your child wants to continue reading about this remarkable hamster.

Our Scholastic Book Fair is Back!
Starting Monday, October 11, until noon on Friday, October 15, we'll have our book fair available for students to buy books they are interested in and pick up a holiday gift or two. We are so excited to host an in-person fair again!

Both the fall and spring Book Fairs are HUGE events that are integral to funding many important resources for all of our students. Here is an overview of what the all-important Book Fair proceeds help purchase:

  • Books to keep our library collection current and interesting!

  • Magazines

  • PebbleGo – Online database with nonfiction facts geared for student use

  • Spelling Bee

  • The Battle of the Books

  • Library supplies

Jeffco is Hiring!

Fairmount is in desperate need of a night custodian at school (2:30 pm-10:30 pm). We also need a para-professional to provide classroom support and assist in the supervision of students. Please pass along to any friends, family, and neighbors. You can get more information for our positions on the Jeffco Public Schools Job Board.
