SUBJECT: Fairmount End of Year Updates

Message from Sally Mills, Principal

Thank You!
As this school year ends, we thank all our families for your support this year! Thank you to our parent volunteers! Thank you to PTA and Accountability Committee members! We appreciate community events, school activities, fundraising support, Book Cart, classroom help, field trip chaperones, Friday Folders, etc.! Our students benefit so much from everything you do for us!

Goodbyes and Hellos!
Our retiring staff members: Ms. Nick, Mrs. Alton, Mrs. Hohenstein. We have a few staff members who are leaving us this year. Charlotte Nick (2nd grade teacher), Leanne Alton (cafeteria manager), and Chris Hohenstein (paraprofessional) are retiring! Also leaving Fairmount for various reasons are: Niki Pardoe (3rd grade teacher), Mary Paris (learning specialist), our Swanson AMP Team (Oscar Castillo, Brittany Bell, and Chris McGarry), and Aryn Jones (ESL teacher). Although we will miss each of them, we are happy for them to begin their next adventure!

We will be welcoming the following new staff members in August: Theresa Sharp (2nd grade teacher), Kristin Larkins (1st grade teacher), Nancy Nevarez (learning specialist), and Cassandra Lamutt (ESL teacher). Other changes: Amanda Roche will be moving to 2nd grade and Lindsey Altice will be moving to 3rd grade.

Summer Is Coming!
Everyone at Fairmount wishes to thank our fabulous families for a successful school year! It has been our passion and pleasure to work with you to help our students grow in so many ways! We hope everyone has a happy summer vacation! This is a great time for everyone to play, relax, and spend time with family and friends.

The school office will be open until June 13th and re-opening on July 19th for our next school year. Summer office hours are from 9:00 a.m. – noon.

As always, if you have a question, comment, or suggestion, please call the office or email me at Sally.Mills@jeffco.k12.co.us.

A Note From Your President

As the PTA president, I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support throughout the past school year. Your dedication to our programming and fundraising efforts has been inspiring.

Thanks to your generous contributions and tireless efforts, we organized a wide range of engaging events and activities that benefited our children and our school community. From fun-filled restaurant nights to author visits, classroom resources, and exciting upgrades, your contributions have made a real difference in the lives of our students.

As we head into the summer, I wish you all a safe and healthy break. May you enjoy the warm weather, spend quality time with loved ones, and come back refreshed and ready for the new school year.

To our 5th grade families leaving the Fairmount community, we will miss you and wish your student much success in the years to come!

Sincerely,
Lauren Snow

Enrichment Survey Open!

Due to the school time change for next year, we will only have enrichment classes available after school. We will be facing challenges with scheduling and want your feedback for what's important to you. Please fill out a quick survey here

Thank you, and reach out with any questions to Victoria Robinson at enrichment@fairmountpta.org.

Jeremiah's Italian Ice | May 9

Come get a sweet treat on May 9th from 11 am to close. Mention Fairmount Elementary so we'll get a portion of their proceeds back to the PTA!

Skate with us! | May 18

Join us at Skate City on May 18th from 6 to 8.  This is just for Fairmount Elementary. The more skaters we get, the more money Fairmount Elementary PTA earns. If we get 200 skaters, the school will earn $800 but if we get 250 skaters, the school will earn $1000! Invite your friends, family, neighbors, etc. to come join us for a fun end-of-year skate celebration.

Help us when you shop

Have you signed up for Community Rewards with King Soopers? We also have several partnerships with businesses that generously donate money back to our PTA when you shop.

Milk Caps for Moo-la!
Not only does Fairmount benefit by receiving 5 cents for every cap we collect, but we save many caps from going to a landfill by returning these to the dairy so they can be recycled.

Updates from LMC

What a year we have had in our LMC! These are the highlights of our year together.

Spelling Bee - Twenty-three 4th and 5th grade students qualified for our school spelling bee in January. These students worked hard to study many high-level words. 1st place went to Kevin Kim, 2nd place went to Colin Cranford, and 3rd place to Bennett Mueller.

Books With The Birds Read- A- Thon - Thanks to our generous Fairmount community, the library is able to purchase hundreds of new books to update our nonfiction and fiction chapter book sections.

The Fairmount Battle of the Books competition was held in February. 15 teams of 5th grade students tested their knowledge of 10 different books. Our top 2 teams competed in our Jeffco District battle in March. 1st Place - Lila Kellermeyer, Devin Pevonka and Addie Freeman. 2nd Place - Kate Schillie, Izzy Bontrager, and Claire Cecil.

Colorado Children’s Book Award Winners

All students at Fairmount voted for their favorite Colorado Children’s Book Award (CCBA) book in February.  Our school turned in the votes to the state committee and the results are in!  It has been so much fun reading all of these great books.

  • Picture Books
Winner: The Couch Potato by Jory John
Runner Up: Norman Didn’t Do It (Yes, He Did) by Ryan T. Higgins
  • Chapter Books
Winner: The Bad Guys in Cut to the Chase by Aaron Blabey
Runner Up: Escape From Chernobyl by Alex Marino

Kids Loved Our Author Visit!
Dion Leonard and Gobi visited our Fairmount students in March. They were a big hit! Dion spoke about his experiences as an ultra-marathon runner, determination and grit and how his adorable dog Gobi found him. Dion’s book Finding Gobi is being turned into a Hollywood movie. We’d like to thank our Fairmount PTA for funding this wonderful in-person author visit as a reward for our school community exceeding the goal for the Books With the Birds Read-a-Thon.

Scholastic Book Fair - Save The Date
Our Spring Book Fair is coming! Mark your calendars and save the dates for May 5th-13th. We hope this Spring Book Fair will put an “ocean of great books” into the hands of our students for summer reading and help to offset the ‘summer slide’ when learning often takes a dip. Come on by and check out our great selection of books!
