SUBJECT: Fairmount Firebird PTA Newsletter - September 2023

Message from Sally Mills, Principal

Welcome to 2023-2024!

Welcome to a great, new school year!  We have gotten off to an amazing start already!  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our new staff members:   Mrs. Lisa Dorn – 5th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Theresa Sharp – 2nd Grade Teacher, Mrs. Kristin Larkins – 1st Grade Teacher, Ms. Nancy Nevarez – Learning Specialist, and Ms. Cassandra Ewert-Lamutt – ESL Teacher. We also have new member to our amazing paraprofessional team – Stacy Atkins, Alison Meara, Jen Piel, Kim Wheeler, and Kelly Whitcomb.

Assessments and School Goals

Great News! We have received our students’ CMAS data from last year and their achievement continues to lead the area, district, and state in almost all content areas and in all grades. In fact, our students scored in the top 4% of Colorado schools for English Language Arts and the top 3% for Math!  Congratulations to our students, staff, and families for such great learning results!

For our new school year, teachers have spent the first few weeks of the year getting to know all of our students and gathering assessment data so that effective instruction can be planned.  All of this information will be shared with parents at our October conferences.

We have two school goals this year in reading.  One is to increase student growth as measured by MAP data, and the other is to increase the number of K-3rd grade students who reach benchmark on the DIBELS by the end of the year. Teachers who teach reading will set their Individual Educator Goal around reading instruction for their students. Other staff members, such as our school psychologist and STEM, DTL, Art, Music, and PE teachers, will set goals that best represent their work with students. Goals for Mrs. Kruse, our Assistant Principal, Mrs. Nickerson, our Instructional Coach, and me are directly tied to the teachers’ goals.

As always, if you have a question, comment, or suggestion, please call the office, stop by, or email me at smills@jeffco.k12.co.us.

A Note From Your President

Welcome to the '23-'24 school year, Firebird Families! We're excited to get back into the swing of things. It was great to see so many faces and connect with many of you at the Back to School Bash!

As the new academic year begins, we are excited to welcome new and returning parents to our community. Our school is not just a place of learning but where everyone comes together to create a nurturing and supportive environment for our children.

We are eager to share with you the many activities and programs we have planned to build and strengthen our community while supporting our children and school.

Lauren Snow
Fairmount Elementary PTA President

After School Enrichments

Most of our enrichment classes for after school are already full for the fall!  All classes will be starting within the next two weeks. There are still a few spots left in our K/1st Art Studio class with Sweet Ridge Studios so sign up here before it's too late!

Anyone interested in taking over the enrichment coordinator position please reach out to enrichment@fairmountpta.org. It is a rewarding position on the PTA that adds new after-school opportunities for the kids at Fairmount to explore that they might not normally try or that is more convenient since it's right after school. If you have your own ideas for enrichments or just want to see this enrichment program continue then please reach out with any questions!
